Prey #JusJoJan 2023

Hello! I’ve decided to join in on Just Jot it January hosted by Linda G. Hill. Today’s prompt is “canine” by Dawn.

In the forest
dark shapes arise
a wolf pack rends the air
with their song.

Gibbous moon
glowing butterscotch
sets tangerine
inch by inch.

Trees shift
rustle in the air
the scent of prey
wafts tantalizingly.

The apex predator
bares its canines
the hunt has begun
the forest is alive.

The word canine makes me think of a tiger. I do know that every carnivore has pronounced canines, yet the word always reminds me of a tiger. Maybe because the first book I ever read that featured an infamous tiger…is The Jungle Book! πŸ˜„

Thanks for reading πŸ’•
